The puzzle of the Monterey Bay and Cruise-ships is starting to take form. We have been working on this threat since June 2017 . Much progress has been made since February 2019 . The September 17th evening session of the Monterey City Council is starting to boil down many over lapping details. The content begins about 11 minutes into the session . Just so our communities understand the city could simply say we will not rent or lease city property to disembark cruise ships because the pollution it brings to this and other small coastal communities will directly effect the communities health and quality of life. The City of Monterey has an obligation to the community and stewardship of our sensitive marine ecosystems and marine mammals.
The cruise-ship industry is not going to sue the city because the state of California is sovereign over these waters and the federal protections would fight this injustice at every level. It’s time to create the first true marine sanctuary – Monterey Bay. Coastal locations around the world are saying no to cruise-ships such as Venice , Italy – Savannah , GA – Wineglass Bay , Tasmania
